Automobiles in Germany's Town Found Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Authorities reported they were notified by a individual who found a vehicle in Hanau smeared with red-colored substance

Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.

Officers state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.

The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police state early analysis indicate the fluid was likely human blood.

"At present there remains no clue as to its source; investigators are not yet aware of any harm in connection with the event," they stated.

Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the public for details.

An important representative said the attack made him without words and had to be resolved quickly.

"This incident affects the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he posted on online, recalling the killing of nine victims by a gunman aiming at people of migrant background in 2020.
